This new custom home is just a stone’s throw from the Governor General’s residence in central Ottawa. It’s a great example of flexibility in an urban setting. The home is situated on an unserviced laneway in a historic neighbourhood just east of the city’s downtown core. The home’s design had to be approved by the city’s historical committee before a building permit could be obtained. Construction was made much more interesting because the nearest intersection was closed throughout for the installation of a storm water collection facility!
All of these challenges made building this home exciting and rewarding. The family we built it for really love the area and it’s fantastic to share the end result with our followers.
We’ve got lots going on this summer across our homebase, the Ottawa region, but we’re also working on a new passive home in the Toronto area. We’re delighted to share a little about that project now.
The home is being built for a young forward thinking family who had to grapple with whether to replace the previous home on their property, which was built in the 1920s. Ultimately, this older home was sacrificing their health with poor indoor air quality and affecting their finances with extremely high heating bills.
As we head into the second half of summer, we’re finding that enquiries continue to come thick and fast. We’re delighted to hear from so many of you, but during peak construction season it can be a bit of a challenge responding in a timely fashion.
We’re doing our best to respond to everyone as quickly as we can (usually within 24 – 48 hours), but if you’ve experienced a delay, don’t be shy about reaching out again.
We know you’re in full-on summer mode, but we want to be sure you can save these dates for this fall. Please note that Green Energy Doors Open will fall on the same weekend as the Ottawa Fall Home Show this year, so we’ve decided to move our fall open house to the next weekend, in early October.
We field requests constantly from people interested in building a passive house, including using one of our 13 energy efficient house plans. We’ve been working towards having cost analysis documents for complete house builds for all 13 of our plans, and now they are ready!
Our sustainable home building business continues to grow rapidly, and we need to add to our team.
We’re looking for a couple of general laborers to help on home construction projects in West Ottawa and the Ottawa Valley. Students are welcome to apply. Looking for responsible, motivated individuals.
If you’re interested or know someone who might be, please get in touch or share our details:
