We love that the passion for building passive continues across Canada as well as south of the border. We hear regularly from home owners in the United States keen to build with our weathertight material kit and super energy efficient plans. With governments around the globe now talking about carbon free futures, a passive home is more relevant than ever. We are pleased to share a couple of projects happening in the US this year.
North Carolina: Modified Foxglove
Our popular Foxglove house plan is the basis for a project in North Carolina this year.
This three-bedroom, two-bathroom model, originally a bungalow, has been modified to incorporate a full walkout basement. The walkout basement is a fantastic way to make use of a site with a natural hill or slope, providing a lower level with full height doors and windows.
This project also includes a small bunkie, which could be used as a secondary coach home, home office/studio, or rental/garden suite.

Modified Hummingbird: Lake Placid, NY
Our extremely popular Hummingbird model has a slightly new spin on this project; we’ve simply adapted it to include a basement.
A basement, including the walkout style that allows for abundant light and outdoor access, is possible with any of our house plans. It all comes down to what works with the land you’re building on.
The ground floor of the Hummingbird normally features four bedrooms; on this project, the ground floor has been revised to include only three bedrooms.
A fourth bedroom and a half bath have been included in the basement, along with a large rec room and a small utility room. The modified design is a great alternative for fans of this plan.
