EkoBuilt Project: Passive Home in Rural West Ottawa

This is a wonderful example of a passive home designed to fit its owners.

This new EkoBuilt passive home is located in rural west Ottawa. A bungalow, its design is slab on grade and it encompasses 1365 ft.² of living space including two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It was finished in time for the 2018-2019 winter season.

It has electric radiant floors and a wood stove. The owners heated with the woodstove predominantly for an entire winter and used a little over two small face chords of wood, an example of the low energy qualities of a passive house. The large windows in this home are actually north facing, for the views, rather than south, which shows just how energy efficient the home is in itself.

We view this home as proof that any home on any property regardless of orientation should be built passive, as the benefits to be gained are so great. Talk about a home that’s incredibly cheap to run, while delightful to live in!
