We went to the open house and enjoyed the presentation. We were told that radiant floors would make a passive house too warm. My question is could the air handler heat slab on grade if one wanted to heat the floor?

Thank you Don, we’re delighted that you joined us. Yes, to clarify, radiant floor in a passive house is no problem and easily done. It just costs a little more to operate because it would be done with a point source water heater which requires an electric element to be heated, so that 1W produced (by water heater) = 1W delivered (to house).

That said, we prefer an air source heat pump because of less overall power consumption. For every 1W (by heat pump), approx 5W gets delivered to house. Hope that helps!
